-Self Employed Womens Association,Ahmedabad,Gujarat from 3rd October-8th
October,2002.
The Self Employed
Womens Association (SEWA) a not-for-profit member based organisation with
over 3,00,000 members who are poor self employed women has been working in the
disaster prone areas of Gujarat for past 25 years. It has promoted many grassroot
(Producers) organisations for the livelihood of its members, which include Banascraft and
Kutchcraft Associations.
These associations were
formed to support the local women artisans in their efforts to preserve and promote their
traditional craft skills. It also assists them in marketing nationally so
that their skills becomes a continous source of employment and thereby provide livelihood
security. 65% of the total sales revenue goes directly to the artisans.
SEWA also assist our
members by offering support services credit facilities, education, housing,
childcare, legal Aid, health care, insurance, assistance to co-operatives.
The range of products
made by the 15000 local artisans vary from Womens Apparel and Accessories
which includes textile based hand embroidered Kurtas, Dupattas, Scarves, Shawls, Skirts,
Tops, Shirts, Blouses, Coats, Jackets and Jewellery made from beads to Gifts and
Stationery which includes textile based hand embroidered File Covers, Note Pad Covers,
Letter Holders. We also have a range of Home Furnishing and Décor items like
Bed Spread (Double and Single), Cushion covers and Floor cushions, Table Cloth and Table
Mats,Decorative Wall pieces and hangings,Door panels, Curtains.
